This month's Art Walk will hold a reception for the teaching artists of CLASS. CLASS (Community Liaison for Art in Stanislaus Schools) is a Valley-based non-profit that brings artists into public schools. As most are aware, the arts have long been undervalued and cut from basic curriculum in public schools despite vast evidence that they play an integral role in learning and brain development. CLASS provides art classes throughout the school year to public schools in Stanislaus County. The teaching artists work hard to create dynamic lessons that promote brain development, creativity, imagination, and value the individuality of the student. Their lessons introduce students to the work of artists from both history and the contemporary moment and allow them to experiment with a wide spectrum of art materials. This show will feature the work of the teaching artists and shine a lens on their personal practices in the arts.
