Painting Class: Van Gogh

Van Gogh is one of the most widely recognized and reproduced artists of our time. You can find "Starry Night" on a toothbrush and sunflowers on a mouse pad. His reputation also survives him: Van Gogh, the quintessential tortured artist, impoverished, maniacal, depressed. This month we will look deeper into his theories and symbolism and explore his subject matter, brushwork and palette. Van Gogh explicitly favored yellow, calling it the color of emotional truth. He was drawn to nature and labor in the fields, expressing a desire to be under the sun. As we move into the fall, this time of golden light, we will indulge in the subject matter of the rural landscape, as it surrounds us. We will be working on paintings in acrylic.
